The summer edition of the WVH newsletter is here and we are thrilled to introduce our newest veterinarian, Dr. Christina Butler! This edition also includes a focus on canine influenza, updates on outbreaks, and vaccine recommendations. In addition, you will find the third installment of our feline behavior series, which discusses inter-cat aggression and provides tips to diffuse tension in your home.

Spring Reminders

Spring is upon us and that means warmer weather and plenty of sunshine.  It also means mosquitos, ticks, and fleas are back and it's time to start your pet's prevention, if you haven't already.  We carry Heartgard and Sentinel for heartworm prevention and Frontline, Nexgard, and Bravecto for flea and tick prevention.  Our doctors have already diagnosed several acute cases of Lyme disease this year and our annual report from the Michigan Department of Health and Human services has named Washtenaw County as a high risk area for this disease.  We had an extremely mild winter and these parasites are present so please keep your pets on their prevention!

Many of your pets are also due for their annual exams this spring and summer.  If you know your pet is due for their annual visit in the upcoming months, please call to schedule your appointment early.  Our doctors only see a few annual visits per day, which allows them time for sick pets and emergencies. These appointment times are filling up fast and we are currently scheduling annual exams into mid-April. We look forward to seeing you and your pets this spring!
